Gatorade and the economy

When I first saw this Gatorade spot that is linked below I thought, “Man, that’s an excellent ad!  There’s a brand trying to reach out to people who are struggling in this economy, showing them that the brand has empathy for what they are going through.”  I thought it made the “regular guy” into kind of a heroic figure.

However, if you scroll down and read the comments section, it seems I might be a minority of one.   If those comments are in any way representative, the ad seems to have struck a nerve with consumers—and not in a good way.    A couple of folks talk about boycotting Gatorade. 

 

Where did this ad go off-track...if, in fact, you think it did?
