From the New York Times. How a New York City chain pharmacy, Duane Reade (recently purchased by Walgreen’s), overcame neighborhood opposition to a new store in Brooklyn.
In short, they decided to cater to the needs of individual neighborhoods. In the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, for example, they’re serving craft beer.
As the article states, “The Williamsburg beer bar is part of a larger effort by Duane Reade to recognize — and capitalize — on the fierce identity and local needs of many New York City neighborhoods.”
