It is written

This story from the Wall Street Journal describes a vibrant niche market – stationery.   Although the U.S. Postal Service is on the brink of bankruptcy, there is a segment of younger people who are bringing back the old-school art of pen-and-paper communication.   Ironically, this movement owes much of its popularity to blogs, Facebook, and Twitter.

It sounds like this is a lot about emotional connection.  The fact that you have taken the time to write (literally, WRITE)  a letter to someone perhaps says something about both you and the depth of your relationship with that individual.
