What's in a name?
This study is a couple of years old but still relevant.
A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research suggests dieters react differently when a plate of pasta, onions, and tomatoes is called “salad special” versus when it is called “pasta special.” (When it was called a “pasta special” dieters perceived it as less nutritious).
Similarly…when you call a Jelly Belly a “candy chew” instead of a “fruit chew,” dieters believe the candy is less tasty.
A summary of the study appeared in the Wall Street Journal.
