Music to our ears
A couple of us at Olson Zaltman have had a long-running, uber-nerdy debate about whether music should be considered a Deep Metaphor.
So a recent study really strikes a chord.
The New York Times chimes in on a study from the Journal of Neuroscience that suggests that adults who played a musical instrument as children for as little as four years respond faster to speech sounds than people with no musical training. This holds even if the person in question hasn’t picked up an instrument for decades.
This is important because, as one of the authors explains, “neural timing is the first to go in the aging adult.”
For those of us played in the junior high school orchestra, this is music to our ears.
